The doctoral programme consists of two phases: the first is the training phase and the second is research. In the first phase students acquire the necessary knowledge and research tools. At the end of this phase, that can be 1 or 2 years, students receive the Masters diploma. In the second phase of the research students develop these skills and knowledge in the preparation of their doctoral thesis. Once the thesis is finished, the student receives the recognition as a Doctor.

Training Phase in our programme it consists of the following of the Master Integrated Architecture Project MIPA. It is an officially recognized university Master, adapted to the European Space of Higher Education (EEES) with 60 ECTS credits.
This Master approaches the architecture Project from different practical and theoretical settings. The MIAP has 3 lines of specialization: conception and representation, project and technology, city and territory with the finality of reaching a complete view of the architectonical project. The academic program (60 ECTS credits) is structured in a way that allows students to create their own itinerary and specialize in one of the three lines ensuring transversality. The MIAP is both professional and academic. In the professional field it offers the possibility of specializing in knowledge related with the project. From the academic point of view it offers the instruments and necessary research methods to be able to begin doctoral studies.

The lines of specialization are:
1. Conception and Representation: has the finality of dedicating to the development and integration of information and knowledge technologies in the processes of conception, criticism and construction of the architectonic Project.
2. Project and Technology: has the finality of approaching the architectonical Project from the theory and the practice of new construction technologies (sustainable and constructive systems) that influence the conception and formalization of the project.
3. City and Territory: it has the finality of contributing with research instruments and projects applied to the origin of the study, the evolution, the historical and cultural context of the models of collective residence and construction of the city.

The 60 ECTS credits are distributed in common courses, basic courses, seminars, specialized workshops, a transversal workshop, and finally a final project. This modular structure and the participation in the subjects of different lines ensure the transversality of knowledge:

The research phase basically consists of the development of the doctorial thesis, which is an original research. Once the training phases has concluded, the student will have chosen a specific line of work, of professional and academic interest, and will be capable of beginning his/her thesis. This will mean formulating a hypothesis and presenting original points of view about a complex subject in order to reach conclusions that solidly corroborate the initial hypothesis. A thesis involves historical, visual and documental research, guided and tutorized by the thesis director.
In order to complete this process, the student is connected to a research group in which he/she will carry out academic activities, consisting in active participation in seminars, congresses, publications and collaborative visits to other centers.
